American Idol contestants say they are shocked and saddened by Paula's departure -- she was the judge they felt close to. It seemed that there was a mutual connection, a love affair between Paula and the contestants that was missing with other judges!
"Paula was the one every elimination show that came backstage to visit us," said Idol finalist Brooke White. "(She) was truly concerned about our well-being. I think because, on that panel of judges, she was the performer, she was the one who experienced what it was like to be on the front lines. She had an empathy for us. She provided a little softness to the table."
As news spread of Paula's departure, contestants took to Twitter to spread the news and express their surprise, sadness -- and to extend their best wishes to the judge with the big heart, the one who was always there offering love and support.
Perhaps speaking most eloquently was Blake Lewis who told Entertainment Weekly, "Paula leaving 'American Idol' is like a honeycomb without the honey. She brought a sweetness to 'AI' that no one can replace. She will be forever our girl."
American Idol Kris Allen wrote, "@Paula Abdul we love you! Glad I was able to be a part of your last season on the show. You showed us so much love."
Danny Gokey wrote on Twitter, "Im really sad 2 see Paula Abdul not coming back 2 idol. She was the judge with the biggest heart! She really will be missed :("
Michael Sarver expressed, "I am sad to see Paula not coming back to idol. It will be the contestants that suffer the most. She was a loving mother to us and I can't picture AI without her. We love u Paula."
Phil Stacey wrote, "She judged with a tender heart, and I for one really appreciated that! She saw star potential in everyone. Future contestants will certainly miss out. As busy of a schedule as she had, Ms. Paula took time every week to visit us, bring gifts ... with messages imprinted on them that were meant too encourage us on during that crazy time. ... She's a very special kind of person."
Anoop Desai wrote, "@Paula Abdul So happy I got to be a part of Paula's last season on Idol. She is a kind, genuine human being and I wish her continued success."
